After his side’s nervy five-wicket win, Eoin Morgan has postulated that the challenge against Sri Lanka was good, keeping the upcoming T20 World Cup in mind. He also insisted that Liam Livingstone and Sam Billings showed the depth that the Three Lions possess in the batting department.

On Wednesday, the Three Lions, led by Eoin Morgan breezed well past their way against Sri Lanka by eight wickets. However, in their clash on Thursday, the encounter got slightly nervy, after their start, where they were reduced to 8/2, chasing a total of 108 for a series win against Sri Lanka.

England were reduced to 36/4 before needing a partnership from Liam Livingstone and Sam Billings to resurrect the batting unit. However, the partnership and a cameo from all-rounder Sam Curran ensured that the Three Lions brushed aside Sri Lanka for a series win in their three-match T20I series.

In the post-match presentation, England skipper Eoin Morgan postulated that it was a good challenge to face the Sri Lankan bowlers, keeping in mind the World T20 that is scheduled to kick-off in October.

“With the WC in mind, this is a good challenge. It's normally a good wicket to bat on, but with the hiccup we had early, we tried to force the equation with the bat, but Sam and Liam showed the depth we had. Liam impressed in every opportunity, and Sam filled Jos's shoes nicely too,” Morgan said in the presentation.

The English skipper also lavishly praised the Lancashire man, Liam Livingstone for showcasing an abundance of swagger, and contributing to the team across all facets, including bowling two crucial overs in the middle. Morgan also pointed out that Mark Wood’s pace, which applied a brake on Sri Lanka’s scoring rate was vital.

“Liam has an abundance of swagger - may be a Lancashire thing and we let him be that way, and he likes to contribute in all facets of the game. Wood is just amazing, with that pace, we're really fortunate to have someone like him in fine form.”
