Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have extended their record of the most number of last-ball wins during run chases in the IPL’s history after they beat Mumbai Indians on Thursday at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy. They have now completed the feat eight times, while the MI are the second-best, with six wins.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) rode on MS Dhoni’s magnificent 13-ball 28 not out to extend their record of the most number of last-ball wins during run chases in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Dhoni’s blitz helped the Yellow Army to register a nail-biting three-wicket win against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Thursday (April 21) at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy.

Following the win, the CSK have now recorded eight last-ball wins during run chases. The MI are the second-best with six wins, followed by Rajasthan Royals (4), Punjab Kings (3), and Royal Challengers Bangalore (3).

The CSK versus MI fixture began with Ravindra Jadeja winning the toss and opting to bowl first. The five-time IPL champions lost both their openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan in the opening over, bowled by Mukesh Choudhary, and were never able to sit in the driver’s seat. Tilak Varma’s 43-ball 51 not out then guided them to a respectable 155/7 at the end of the innings.

In response, the CSK lost Ruturaj Gaikwad on the first ball of their chase. Robin Uthappa and Ambati Rayudu steadied the ship, forging a 50-run stand for the third wicket, but the job was yet to be done. Dhoni’s breezy cameo was ably assisted by Dwaine Pretorius, who smashed a crucial 14-ball 22 to take their side home. Choudhary, for his excellent figures of 3-0-19-3, was adjudged the Player of the Match.
