India's head coach Rahul Dravid has said that he will be looking forward to Dinesh Karthik playing the same role for Team India as a finisher as he was playing for RCB in the recently-concluded IPL 2022. Karthik has been recalled after a long gap in national colours following a decent IPL 2022.

Dinesh Karthik had been at his fluent best for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) during the IPL 2022. The Tamil Nadu-born cricketer aggregated 330 runs in 16 matches at a staggering strike rate of 183, and because of that, he has been recalled into Team India's set-up for the upcoming five-match T20I series against South Africa after a three-year gap.

Speaking at the pre-match conference, India's head coach Rahul Dravid talked about Karthik ahead of his return. Dravid said the team management has told Karthik about his role, and they all will be looking forward to him delivering in the national colours as well.

"With Dinesh (Karthik), it's very obvious and very clear. He has made a comeback on the basis of the skills that he has shown in a particular phase of the game. At the back end, he has really been able to be a point of difference in whichever teams he has played," Dravid said at the pre-match conference.

"That's why he has been picked, he has been picked to bat in that kind of position and see if he can replicate those kinds of performances for India as well."

Karthik was in good form in T20Is as well before being dropped out from Team India's roster. He struck at over 150 and averaged 60.33 in 14 matches in 2018, and in the following year, he scored 181 at 167.
