England's Test captain Ben Stokes has been sidelined for the rest of the summer after suffering a tear in his left hamstring during The Hundred. Stokes will be absent from the upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka, starting at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester on August 21.

‌The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has confirmed that Ben Stokes will miss the remainder of the home summer after tearing his left hamstring during The Hundred. Stokes, 33, underwent scans today that revealed the extent of the injury, ruling him out of the upcoming series against Sri Lanka and the rest of England's summer fixtures.

The injury occurred while Stokes was playing for the Northern Superchargers against Manchester Originals on Sunday. Attempting a quick double early in the chase, Stokes pulled up in pain and collapsed to the ground, clutching his left leg. He had to be assisted off the field and was later seen returning to the dugout with the help of crutches.

According to the ECB, the all-rounder is now focusing on making a comeback for England's winter Test tour of Pakistan, which is set to begin in early October. The tour will feature three Test matches in Multan, Karachi, and Rawalpindi.

In the meantime, Ollie Pope has been named as the stand-in captain for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, though it remains obscure whether a replacement will be added to the current 13-player squad.
