Test cricket is not just a test of patience but also a test of concentration. While the batters need to be keen on facing a delivery, the fielders need to be at the top of their game and not let an opportunity go begging as Zakir Hasan’s acrobatic catch exemplified against Pakistan in Rawalpindi.

Following a delayed start due to a wet outfield, Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and elected to field first. Pakistan openers Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique aimed to withstand the Bangladeshi bowling but failed to do so neatly. Hasan Mahmud was successful with the new ball, courtesy of a tremendous catch from Zakir Hasan at gully.

On the third ball of the fourth over, Hasan Mahmud bowled a fuller delivery outside the stumps that Shafique tried to drive on the front foot. It was right in the arc to be driven but the right-hander played it late and aerial for the fielder at gully to snap it like a hawk. Zakir Hasan stationed there, swerved to his right in a fraction of a second to grasp the ball with firm hands and complete the catch. With the fielder seeming almost in the air while gobbling the ball, the Twitterverse could do nothing but to laud his incredible effort.

What a catch!

Brilliant stunner!

That's crazy!

Flying like a bird in the air!

Best one so far!

That could be catch of the day!

Yes it was!

Excellent!

He said bye to gravity there!

Yeah!
