Keeping emotions in check during crunch situations is perhaps the hardest battle an elite athlete has to face but when two hotheads get together at the crease, it can get tricky. Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja experienced the same in Gabba on Tuesday after a mix-up led to an absurd argument.

India faced a steep task on Day 4 to avoid the follow-on after they lost Rohit Sharma early on the day and were buckled down to 74/5 in response to Australia's first-innings score of 445. The capitulation of KL Rahul to Nathan Lyon for 84 further dented the Men in Blue's hopes but Ravindra Jadeja's formidable half-century took the team within 51 runs of their target by the time Nitish Kumar Reddy chopped on a Pat Cummins in-ducker following a resilient 16. Out walked Mohammed Siraj next, with the sole responsibility of keeping his wicket secure while allowing his more experienced counterpart to rattle off the runs. However, the plan quickly went haywire and led to a dispute right in the middle of the deck with the ball still alive.

Siraj was handed the strike on the penultimate ball of the 62nd over and Cummins immediately set a field for the short ball, knowing he had two balls to manufacture a wicket before the tailender returned to the non-striker's end. The Aussie skipper banged in a length ball that seamed in with the angle and thumped into Siraj's thigh before rolling across to the vacant offside region. Without much thought, Siraj instantly called for a run and began sauntering out of his crease, only to realize his partner was reciprocating once he had travelled nearly 10 yards. A quick turnaround and a sparing dive followed but to his fortune, Cummins' throw went wide and past the fielder backing up to allow the duo a single off overthrows. However, it meant Jadeja had just one ball to take back the strike, which evidently frustrated the all-rounder as his jog slowed down to a walk while going past Siraj in the middle of the pitch. The two seemed to exchange some intense words before Jadeja put in a final sprint to avoid losing his wicket as a consequence of expressing his anger.

Thankfully for India, the teams walked off just three deliveries later unscathed owing to showers but Twitterati was already feasting by then on social media.
