‌Canada had a promising start after being asked to bat first by Ireland skipper Paul Stirling. The 35-year-old Chandigarh-born misjudged the extra bounce and was beaten on the outside edge while trying to defend it. The ball glanced off his right arm and went directly to Irish wicketkeeper Lorcan Tucker. Amidst this, Little's loud appeal was met with disinterest from on-field umpire Richard Kettleborough. Despite Little's desire for a DRS review, Ireland skipper Paul Stirling opted against it after consulting with his teammates.

Moments later, replays revealed an inside edge, showing that Dhaliwal had indeed been struck on the gloves, with UltraEdge technology confirming the contact. The Twitterverse quickly reacted, flooding social media with discussions about the missed opportunity.
