WI vs SA | Twitter reacts to Dre Russ tragically accepting potentially tournament-ending error for Windies
Not all mistakes are made equal, especially at the elite level in professional sports. Andre Russell knows that all too well given his wealth of experience, yet it was not enough to keep the on-song batter from throwing his wicket away at a crucial juncture -- a moment that could decide the match.
West Indies limped their way to 135/8 after being asked to bat first in Antigua largely on the back of a steadying 81-run partnership between Kyle Mayers and Roston Chase. The hosts showed sparks across several phases of the game to post a much larger total but failed to capitalize on their opportunities, with due credit to a disciplined effort to the Proteas bowling effort. The one batter that seemed to have found his range on the tricky surface was Andre Russell but the explosive batter's contributions were restricted to 15 runs as a consequence of an unnecessary error that could prove to be the difference between victory and defeat on the day.
After coming out to bat in the 16th over, Russell had wasted little time in heaving two balls beyond the fence and looked set to propel his team to a competitive score. However, with the tail already in play at the other end, a modicum of patience was the need of the hour. Russell failed to comply though and forced a quick run to kick off the 18th over when Akeal Hosein dabbed the ball to short third-man. Anrich Nortje hit the bullseye with a brilliant throw and Russell was caught short of the crease by the barest margin, leading to the veteran going through all seven stages of grief.
As soon as the stumps were shattered, Russell collapsed to his knees and hung his head in shame with his helmet resting on his willow's handle. Once the replays confirmed his fate, the 36-year-old continued to express disgust at his conduct, his sad demeanour even forcing the usually harsh Twitterati to express sympathy.
What a throw!

Russell was hitting well
Why'd Hosein run on the last ball of the over and tried to give strike to Russell in the first ball of the next over only to have him Runout
Match firmly in the hands of SA
Like DHoni got out in 2019 WC?
Russell got runout by an inch...

More trouble for Wi. Will be difficult to defend below 140 here even with SA's choking tendencies
