‌AFG vs BAN | Twitter reacts to Gulbadin Naib’s stupefying act engage Rahmat Shah into raucous run-out

The wrong steps can often misguide from leading to the destination. Afghanistan seemed to be in a similar situation when Gulbadin Naib’s lapse in concentration led to well-set Rahmat Shah’s dismissal at crucial times of the chase during the second ODI against Bangladesh in Sharjah.

Aiming to chase down a 253-run target on a tricky Sharjah deck, terror struck early in Afghanistan’s batting lineup after Rahmanullah Gurbaz fell cheaply in the fourth over. However, contributions from Sediqullah Atal and Rahmat Shah steered the Atalans past the 100-run mark before Mustafizur Rahman opened their cracks after getting the better of captain Hashmatullah Shahidi in the 29th over. In the next over, Afghanistan lost Azmatullah Omarzai and Rahmat with the latter engaging in a calamitous runout, sold down the river by Gulbadin Naib.

The fifth delivery of the 30th over saw Nasum Ahmed bowl a length ball outside the stumps to Gulbadin who jabbed it towards cover and set off for a run. However, he suddenly halted and reverted back with a dive after seeing the fielder charge with Rahmat just behind. The set non-striker batter had already surpassed the halfway mark by the time and almost completed the run before Naib’s split-second reflex sold him down the river. Jaker Ali, despite collecting the ball near the stumps kept calm and threw the ball towards the bowler's end to run out either of the batters. Eventually, Rahmat had to walk off the field as Gulbadin went against sacrificing his wicket, prompting the Twitterverse into a frenzy.
