‌Should protective gear be used for the audience watching cricket matches? While this seems to be a pretty wayward idea, Samson’s merciless ball-striking in Joburg might have just raised further questions on the audience’s safety as a lady in the crowd incurred a grave thud resulting in injury.

Winning the first toss of the four-match T20I series, Suryakumar Yadav opted to bat first in Johannesburg. The opening pair of Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma were fed off with looseners inside the powerplay as they smoked them too all parts of the ground at the start. Although Abhishek’s cameo didn’t last long, Samson ensured to bounce back after a couple of ducks with merciless ball-striking - one of which resulted in lady’s injury at the stands.

Having smoked a for a biggie on Tristan Stubb’s first ball of the over, Samson followed it up with yet another slog off a fuller delivery at the legs on the second ball of the tenth over. The Kerala batter triggered on the back foot and clobbered it over deep mid-wicket region. While an individual from the broadcast crew ducked underneath to avoid a thud, the ball ricocheted off a pole towards a lady behind who was unaware of the happenings. The white cherry swiftly thudded onto her jaw, and soon after, she was seen weeping while applying an ice pack to her left jaw. Subsequently, Samson felt for the lady, and the Twitterverse joined in as well.
