WI vs ENG | Shimron Hetmyer returns to national duty as West Indies announce squad for England series
West Indies veteran Shimron Hetmyer has earned a call-up to the national side for West Indies’ three-match ODI series against England, which starts on October 31. He will replace Alick Athanaze, who failed to impress against Sri Lanka with scores of 10 and 1 in the first two ODIs.
Athanaze, who lost his opening spot to Evin Lewis in the third ODI, has been dropped due to lack of form. Lewis mustered a century against Sri Lanka, helping them earn a consolation win in the series, and shall be the preferred opener along with Brandon King. Moreover, Young sensation Jewel Andrew has retained his spot after being a part of the third ODI.
Jayden Seales, Shamar Joseph, and Matthew Forde are likely to spearhead the pace department with Romario Shepherd as the pace-bowling all-rounder. Gudakesh Motie and Hayden Walsh Jr. are the spinners in their squad with Roston Chase as spin all-rounder.
England are arriving on the back of a Test series loss against Pakistan (2-1) and have named a rather young squad with 21-year-old Jacob Bethell finding a place. They will be playing three ODIs and five T20Is between October 31 and November 17 before the attention switches to the three-match Test series against New Zealand.
