KKR vs LSG | Twitter amazed as Pant redeems burnt review with another unabashed call next ball

The introduction of the Decision Review System has made it easier for teams to avoid howlers as was the goal, but it has come at the cost of increased scrutiny on captaincy. Rishabh Pant felt the heat on Tuesday at Eden Gardens after letting a review go to waste but was quick to make up for it.
Lucknow Super Giants set the Kolkata Knight Riders a mammoth target of 239 in their group stage game on the back of stunning half-centuries from Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran at rapid pace. With the batting approach already preset for them give the sheer magnitude of their challenge, the host openers Quinton de Kock and Sunil Narine walked out with a vengeance as they went hard at every bowler that came their way. Shardul Thakur was pummeled for 15 first up before Akash Deep endured even worse, conceding 16. However, with all the chaos brewing, drama was inevitable and it arrived sooner than expected.
In the third over, de Kock greeted Deep into his second effort with an elegant six off his pads but the right-arm quick delivered a great riposte that skimmed past the batter's willow and only just missed the stumps. While the quick was rueing how that delivery did not earn him any success, Rishabh Pant behind the stumps went up in loud attempt for a caught behind. He also found support from Shardul Thakur stationed inside the circle and despite the clear reluctance from his teammares, Pant decided to accept the onus and take the all. Yet, as was suspected, the ball was no where close to the bat and de Kock survived comfortably.
The twist came when the very next ball de Kock tried to heave a length ball angling in from leg stump towards the stumps but the Kookaburra sneaked below his willow and thumped into the pads. The only question was whether the ball had pitched outside leg, which the umpire deemed it had and denied the visitors. However, Pant signalled for a review immediately, unfettered from his experience the previous ball. And he paid the dividends as this time around it was a right call for a review, and Twitterati was quick to sing praises of his no-nonsense leadership.
