Mitchell Starc has been tormenting England with the ball right from ball one of this Ashes series and he continued to do that, but with the bat. The pacer hit a crucial half-century, after coming down the order in the second Test at the Gabba in Brisbane to add salt to the visitors’ wounds.

‌After starting the third day of the second Test at 378/6 in Brisbane, Alex Carey played a crucial knock to take Australia past the 400-run mark. The wicketkeeper-batter scored a brisk 63 to extend the home side’s dominance on a Gabba surface that was excellent for batting in the first session.

Meanwhile, England continued to suffer even after Carey’s dismissal, with Mitchell Starc rubbing salt to the visitors’ wounds. After registering a six-wicket haul, the tall pacer turned up with the bat to score an important fifty to take the lead closer to 150.

After completing his half-century, the southpaw accelerated proceedings with consecutive boundaries of Gus Atkinson. He continued to be severe against the pacer with two more boundaries three overs later with the second of those making even a top order batter pride.

With Atkinson aiming for the stumps and bowling full and straight, Starc was ready as he used the long handle to great effect to thump the ball down the ground. What made the shot even better was that he held his pose for the camera to zoom in on him just as the ball went over mid-on for his 13th boundary.

Australia were flying towards 500 and the lead swelling to 157 with the batter looking in full flow. Twitter was in awe as Starc continued to torture England, first with the ball and now with the bat.
