The rapid evolution of T20 cricket has started to leave a footprint in cricket’s red-ball format with numerous players looking to counterattack the bowlers right from the start. In a similar attempt, young Sam Konstas tasted the drawbacks of blazing all guns against Victoria’s Scott Boland.

Eyeing to seal a victory in the upcoming round of the Shield, the New South Wales chose to bat first after winning the toss. Backing their captain, openers Sam Konstas and Nic Maddinson opted for an aggressive approach against the new ball. Despite hitting a four towards third man off a reverse scoop against Scott Boland, Konstas fell cheaply trying to sweep a fast bowler early in the morning session.

Having gathered 30 runs in the first two overs, Konstas, who forms one-half of the batting pair, tried to sweep Boland on the first ball of the third over. As the young gun tried to shuffle across the line he ended up sweeping all over the line as the fuller ball skidded onto the stumps. In no time, Konstas’ attacking intent was rubbished, courtesy of a Boland special, sparking Twitterverse discourse.

Not this time mate!
