It's not seldom that we get to see the momentum in a cricket match shifting in a matter of moments. A similar pattern followed in the WPL encounter between the Gujarat Giants and the Delhi Capitals when the latter gained the upper hand with Shikha Pandey’s brutal headshot to Dottin on hattrick ball.

Winning the toss and choosing to field first paid off for the Delhi Capitals with the new ball bowlers complementing captain Meg Lanning’s ploy. Marizanne Kapp and Shikha Pandey took a couple of wickets apiece inside the 31-run powerplay, exposing Giants’ ineffectiveness after shuffling their batting order. The DC bowlers were on top of them with Shikha rattling Deandra Dottin’s helmet when on a chance for a hattrick.

After baiting Beth Mooney and Kashvee Gautam at the deep square leg region, Pandey bowled a short of a length delivery to the new batter. Although it was more like a leg cutter, the pitch had enough bounce to offer a steep bounce as the white cherry thudded Dottin’s helmet grill. The Caribbean batter intended for a pull but ended up summoning the physio for a quick concussion check. The fact that Pandey was on a hattrick and went on to execute a headshot to the new batter, sparked Twitterverse discourse.

 Oh!!!
