Unfortunately Gaikwad's not coming now for personal reasons, Yorkshire head coach states
Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out of the entire county season as he has pulled out due to personal reasons. Yorkshire head coach and former domestic legend Anthony McGrath has opened up on the reasons behind the India star being ruled out ahead of what could have been his debut against Surrey.
Indian batter Ruturaj Gaikwad has pulled out of his County deal with Yorkshire club to extend his absence from professional cricket. The 28-year-old top-order batter was set to debut for the Yorks at North Marine Road against Surrey on July 22. The two-time IPL winner was last seen leading the Chennai Super Kings in the first half of the 2025 edition before being ruled out for the rest of the tournament due to a hairline fracture.
The news about Gaikwad missing out was announced by Yorkshire head coach Anthony McGrath through a statement, where he expressed his disappointment over the Pune-born being ruled out of the entire County season but refused to disclose the reasons.
“Unfortunately Gaikwad's not coming now for personal reasons. We're not going to have him for Scarborough or for the rest of the season. So that's disappointing. I can't tell you anything about the reasons why, but we hope that everything's ok. We've literally just found out,” McGrath’s statement read.
“We're working behind the scenes on what we can do. But it's only two or three days away, so I'm not sure what we can do at the moment. We're working to try and get a possible replacement, but time pressure is the issue. I can't give you anything more than that at the moment,” the head coach added.
Yorkshire have won two and lost four out of their nine games in the ongoing County season to sit eighth in Division One, 49 points off leaders Surrey.
