Sophie Devine came up with an all-round performance to lead Perth Scorchers to a four-wicket win over Melbourne Renegades in the Women’s Big Bash League 2025 in Melbourne. The visitors’ skipper picked up 2/16 in two overs to help bowl out the Renegades to 150, after opting to bowl at the Junction Oval on Thursday.

She then turned on the heat with an aggressive display with the bat to set the foundation of the chase. The New Zealand all-rounder smashed six fours and two sixes during her 24-ball 46 as the Scorchers went past 50 inside four overs. But she was at her comical best earlier on the field as she symbolically displayed how age was quickly catching up with her.

After dismissing Georgia Wareham with the third ball of the 13th over, medium pacer Chloe Ainsworth pitched a ball up around off stump to new batter Issy Wong. The England pacer drove hard as the ball went in the air before pitching just short of Devine, who stationed herself at mid off.

The 36-year-old Devine ran sideways as the ball hit her on the bounce before slowly stopping away from her. The skipper who lay on the ground, slowly reached the white rock with an exaggerated crawl that had the audience in splits. Then she looked around the field to evoke laughter from her fellow players too, as the commentators funnily said, ‘That is how you warm up for a game after the age of 30’.
