IND vs WI | Twitter amused as Jaiswal responds to copping blow from Seales with undeterred death stare
Test cricket can at times be as much a battle of egos as one between bat and ball. A brief passage of play during the second Test in Delhi between India and West Indies exhibited the same as Jayden Seales resorted to unsavory methods when under attack from Yashasvi Jaiswal, who remained unbothered.
After a tepid first session where India piled on 94 runs in 28 overs for the loss of KL Rahul's wicket, the hosts had already doubled their score a little over an hour post-Lunch. Sai Sudharsan continued on his merry way to bring up a flawless half-century but it was the man at the other end dealing most of the damage as a seventh Test century beckoned for Yashasvi Jaiswal. The opener had begun cautiously against the new ball before spraying a few boundaries in the period before Lunch, yet none of it came close to the intent the youngster showed immediately upon resumption of play in a passage of play that threatened to blow out of proportion.
Jayden Seales had the ball in hand to get proceedings underway after the break and decided to target the off-stump channel, but dropped his length just short enough to alllow Jaiswal to slash a cut for four. Seales tried to go a bit straighter but the ball remained in a spot to be put away and the opener duly obliged, making it two boundaries to begin the second session of Day 1. Frustrated with the result, Seales hit the good length next up to evoke a defence but quickly faltering again with a full-pitched delivery. Jaiswal showed no hesitation in crouching one knee and opening the blade of the bat to caress the ball thorugh the vacant region for a third four in the over, bringing up his half-century in the process. Seales, however, wasn't one to give up as he went attack again with a full straight delivery which was driven straight back at him this time around. The quick was already fired up as he collected the ball, and immediately slung it with eyes blazing in the batter's direction who took evasive action and only allowed the SG to hit his pads. A staring match ensued but while Seales quickly turned around with the intensity writ large on his face, Jaiswal kept his gaze fixated at his rival as if imagining ways to hunt him down.
Twitterati could not be more entertained.
