Gautam Gambhir, the Indian Head Coach, is seeking a contract extension with the Indian team. He has already achieved much more than any other Head Coach of the Indian team but he is not willing to stop at this moment. As per his current contract, he is set to be India's Head Coach till the 2027 ODI World Cup.
This means by the next year, Gambhir will be having an end to his tenure as the Head Coach. He still has two major ICC events to focus on, which includes the ODI World Cup 2027 which will be played in South Africa, and the World Test Championship, where India is having much less chances of reaching the finals.
Amidst all this, some reports suggest that Gautam Gambhir wants to extend his contract till the 2028 T20 World Cup. Along with that, he is also backing the Indian team to have Suryakumar Yadav as the captain. Under his captaincy, India was able to make a record by defending the T20 World Cup at their home.
Our Take
The reports of Gautam Gambhir seeking a contract extension have not been confirmed by the BCCI or the Head Coach himself. But the fact that India has done pretty well in the white ball tournaments under his leadership cannot be denied. India has played two tournaments in his stint, which were the Champions Trophy 2025 and T20 World Cup 2026. Fortunately, India was able to win both of them with ease. As of now, Gambhir has his eyes set on India's plans for the 2027 World Cup.
