The CSK fans have been waiting for a long time to watch MS Dhoni on the field. While he has travelled with the team to every city, he has not featured in even a single game. Michael Hussey recently spoke on the team having MS Dhoni as an impact substitute.

Chennai Super Kings have now played a massive total of 7 games without their key veteran, Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He was ruled out of the initial games for the team after suffering with a calf injury. The team decided to give him the required rehabilitation, which was expected to be for two weeks.

But the recovery took much more time than it was expected. Fans even expected Dhoni to return to the field in the match against Mumbai Indians, but that didn't happen. Now, it is likely that he would be playing the match against Gujarat Titans, which has kept the fans excited. In the match against Mumbai Indians, Michael Hussey spoke about Dhoni's availability.

He said,“I'm pretty sure he'll be behind the stumps. The biggest thing for him is that calf injury. It's just the running and late in the innings if he comes in, having to scamper those ones and twos. He just needs to make sure the calf is strong enough to withstand. But certainly from a skill perspective, we know what he can do as a keeper. We know he's batting really well, so it's just hopefully getting that confidence in the calf.”

Our Take

The availability of MS Dhoni is almost confirmed for the match against Gujarat Titans. He was ready to play the game against Mumbai Indians, but the team eventually decided to give some more rest to ensure that he remains fit for the remainder of the season. Whether he will play as an impact player or not, it will depend on his fitness and calf strain.
