Is Australias Top Order Their Biggest Weakness in Test Cricket Right Now?
Australia's top order has been put under scanner once again in the second Test. Even though they bowled out Bangladesh for 64, the top order again failed to score runs. Players such as Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne are struggling to score runs, while Smith handles things like a lone warrior.
The Australian team is dominating in the longest format of the game. Still they have one major concern to fight, which is their top order. Over the last few months, their top three batsmen have not been able to contribute much to the team.
Travis Head is known for providing the team with an aggressive start. He did this even in the series against Bangladesh, but got out after scoring 22 runs in the second Test. With Head not being able to do well in this format right now, another concern has been his fellow opener. Since Usman Khawaja, it has changed to a great extent, with the recent addition being Matt Renshaw.
And at number three, it's Marnus Labuschagne, who has not been going through a good time since Ashes 2023. As his poor form in the game continues, he is struggling to score runs for the team even in the home conditions.
Our Take
Even though the Australian team has been able to do well in the longest format of the game, they would have to address the issues with their batting line-up as soon as possible. Since Usman Khawaja retired from the game, the team has not been able to find a stable opening partner for Travis Head. And the form of Marnus Labuschagne has dipped to a great extent, causing a lot of troubles for the team.
