The helicopter shot has long been associated with MS Dhoni and Rivaldo Moonsamy paid tribute to the master during the SA20 match against Sunrisers Eastern Cape in Gqeberha. The Joburg Super Kings opener brought his own version of the famous shot to strike comparisons with the wicketkeeper-batter.

‌Sunrisers Eastern Cape became the first team to qualify for the SA20 playoffs with a 61-run win over Joburg Super Kings in Gqeberha on Wednesday. Quinton de Kock scored 54 off 37 balls, including five fours and two sixes, up top, while debutant James Coles had 10 fours in his 34-ball 61 as the home side reached a formidable 178/5 after being put in at theSt George’s Park. However, the Super Kings could make just 117 before being bowled out in the penultimate over, with Senuran Muthusamy picking up 3/26 and Coles rounding off an all-round show with two wickets.

During the chase, the Super Kings opener Rivaldo Moonsamy came up with an audacious shot off Marco Jansen in the third over to shock the Sunrisers. With Jansen coming around the wicket and bowling a slightly fullish delivery around off stump, the JSK opener shuffled across to flick his wrists quickly.

The batter brought the willow down in a flash before hitting the ball across to the square leg fence. It was an unbelievable pick up shot with the deep square leg fielder James Coles in the game till the final moment.

However, the ball went through his hands on the jump to clear the boundary ropes and gave Moonsamy his first boundary of the night. It was an altered version of the helicopter shot, with the Protean bringing down his bat at an angle to play the ball square on the on-side. The social media platforms, however, were quick to draw comparisons with the man who made the shot famous and made it his trademark, MS Dhoni.

Audacious!
