MI W vs RCB W | Twitter chuckles as Sajana and Poonam compete to provide first aid after Firduous gets hit
Wicketkeepers are valuable commodities in the game of cricket, and that was underlined yet again in the MI vs RCB game in the WPL. Sajana Sajeevan and Poonam Khemnar rushed to attend to Rahila Firdous, MI’s only specialist keeper remaining after Kamalini’s injury, after she got hit on the shoulder.
And in return, the Bengaluru-based outfit shook under pressure, losing their way to be placed at a precarious 35/5 at the start of the last over of the powerplay. That left Richa Ghosh and Nadine de Klerk with an unenviable task of getting 165 runs in 14.5 overs and with just five wickets remaining.
MI’s wicketkeeper Rahila Firdous was in the thick of things, taking the catches of Grace Harris and Georgia Voll off Shabnim Ismail and Hayley Matthews, respectively. Having come into the team after the injury to Kamalini, the young glovewoman was using every opportunity that came her way.
But she had a scare as the ball hit her on her shoulder while attempting a catch off Richa Ghosh. With Hayley bowling a short of a length delivery outside off stump, Richa went back and tried to dab her towards the third man with soft hands.
But the ball hit Firdous’ right shoulder before ballooning and landing safely as the wicketkeeper looked in visible pain. With their regulation keeper already out, Firdous is the only specialist behind the stumps in the squad. That was visible from the way Sajana and Poonam Khemnar came rushing to attend to her.
Twitter was in splits as Firdous received VIP treatment from her teammates, with both Sajana and Poonam trying to massage her shoulder at the same time.
She is important!
