Ruturaj Gaikwad has been a part of Chennai Super Kings for a long time. And in his time with the team, he has worked with the best Indian skipper, Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Recently, Gaikwad talked about the valuable lessons he received from Dhoni in his career.

Ruturaj Gaikwad is rapidly making waves in the Indian cricket team. With each and every passing game, he is giving statements to the selectors that he is ready to make his move to the Indian team as a permanent player. Even in the recent tri-series for India A, he went on to be the top scorer for the team.

With his consistency in the game, he was a key player for the team's win. It should also be noted that Gaikwad has been a part of Chennai Super Kings for the last few seasons, and has also won the title with them multiple times. In his tenure at the Super King, he also spent a lot of time with MS Dhoni, before he was named as the skipper of the team.

Recently in an interview, he talked about the learnings from Dhoni. Gaikwad said, “One thing I have learnt from him is trying to keep things very simple & not complicate a lot, sometimes, as a responsible player in the team, you tend to overthink decisions. You think about all the ifs & buts, with him, I feel he keeps things really simple. He lets things flow as it is and then arrives at a conclusion.”

Our Take

The bond between Gaikwad and Dhoni has been just like the bond between a student and his mentor. Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings to win five IPL titles before he decided that it was the right time to hand over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad. Although Gaikwad has not been able to take the team much ahead in his captaincy, he will be aiming to continue Dhoni's legacy in the team in the upcoming seasons.
