Harmanpreet Kaur Creates History, Overtakes Rohit Sharmas Record
Harmanpreet Kaur went on to smash a half-century against Australia Women in the virtual knockout. This even made her the oldest player to score a fifty in the T20 World Cup. The record was earlier held by Rohit Sharma, who scored a half-century against Australia in 2024.
The record of an Indian skipper has been broken by another Indian skipper. While the Indian team has been knocked out of the Women's T20 World Cup, Harmanpreet Kaur fought for her team till the end. She went on to score 56 runs for the Indian team, helping them to post a competitive total on the board.
With her half-century against Australia Women, she overtook Rohit Sharma in the record of oldest Indian to score a half-century in the T20 World Cup. She did this at the age of 37 years and 112 runs, while the Hitman did this at the age of 37 years and 58 days.
Rohit Sharma did this back in the T20 World Cup 2024, when India went against Australia. He went on to score 92 runs off 41 balls, taking the Indian team to a competitive total. Rohit also went on to score his half-century in just 19 balls, which was the fastest in the tournament.
Our Take
Rohit Sharma and Harmanpreet Kaur have led the Indian team from the front. But the results for both of them turned out to be a lot different. While Rohit Sharma went on to lead the Indian team to win its second T20 World Cup title, Harmanpreet Kaur had to go empty-handed with her team being eliminated. Even though her half-century came in a losing cause, she was able to break the record earlier being held by the Hitman.
