The Indian team suffered its first ever series loss to Ireland. And in the two games, the Indian fans were waiting for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to make his debut in the national side. Following the series loss, Ryan ten Doeschate told the media why his debut has been delayed.

The Indian team has suffered with a horrific loss in the T20I series against Ireland. Even though they came to the series being the T20 World Cup champions, they lost to a team which doesn't even hold a place in the ICC top ten rankings. In the two games, fans had waited for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to make his debut.

While players such as Prince Yadav and Suryansh Shedge got an opportunity, Vaibhav spent both games sitting on the bench. On the other hand, the Indian openers, Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson, were unable to give their best. Sanju got dismissed for golden duck in both games while Abhishek Sharma scored just 49 runs.

Following the series loss, Ryan ten Doeschate was present in an interview, where he was asked about Vaibhav's debut. He said, “Vaibhav is absolutely ready to play internationals, but you can't leave Sanju Samson out. He played a major role for us in World Cup win. We want to give players a long run. Vaibhav has to wait for his opportunity.”

Our Take

Sanju Samson surely was one of the biggest reasons why the Indian team had won the T20 World Cup 2026. Due to this reason, the selectors also feel that benching Samson for Sooryavanshi could be quite unfair. But noting the current series loss against Ireland, they know that if Samson is unable to do well in the first few games against England, they will have to go with the Baby Boss.
