Gautam Gambhir Speaks About His Bond with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli
Gautam Gambhir, the Indian Head Coach, has finally opened up on his bond with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. It was reported that Gambhir and RoKo didn't share a good bond lately, and didn't talk in the recent series. Gambhir indirectly talked about the things that took place in the dressing room.
The T20 World Cup-winning coach, Gautam Gambhir, was present for an interview. He talked about a number of things, and the presenter asked a question that many fans must have forgotten. Gambhir was asked about the bond that he shares with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as of now.
However, he didn't directly tell the fans whether the bond is good or not. He said,“I’m human and I should be allowed to make mistakes, just like players. In the last 18 months I must have made mistakes, and I don’t shy away from that. A wrong decision with the right intent is acceptable, but a wrong decision with wrong intent is not acceptable in that dressing room. As long as I’m honest with everyone there, from the masseur to the assistant coach, and I can look them in the eye, I believe I’m doing a fair job.”
A few months back, reports claimed that RoKo and Gambhir are not in talking terms. Some even claimed that it happened due to the Test retirement of both players and Rohit Sharma losing his ODI captaincy.
Our Take
There has been a lack of direct communication between Gautam Gambhir and the senior duo of the Indian cricket team. It is even being said that the cold rift between them is due to the tactical differences. While Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli continue to do well for the Indian team, they aim to play the 2027 World Cup.
Gautam Gambhir, as the Head Coach, has won all of the white-ball tournaments in which he participated. But if rifts exist within the team and with senior players, they could affect the team's synergy. India will play its next series against Afghanistan in June, and there is hope that the rift will be over by then.
