Chennai Super Kings are preparing themselves for the sixth title but the team has suffered a setback. Nathan Ellis, who impressed the fans with his bowling skills, has now been ruled out of the tournament. He was also the highest wicket-taker in the T20I series against India.

The CSK fans were happy, watching their key players return to the team's training camp. But they won't be getting a key bowler’s appearance this time, who rocked the Indian batting line-up in the last few months. And it is Nathan Ellis, who was a part of the team but didn't play a game for them over the last few seasons.

It has been reported that Nathan Ellis has been ruled out of the IPL 2026. He suffered with a hamstring injury while playing a Big Bash League clash against Brisbane Heat in January 2026. It was expected that he would recover by the time IPL begins, but that did not happen.

The franchise confirmed his unavailability for the upcoming IPL season. Reports say that he is suffering from a Grade Two hamstring tear, which needs approximately eight weeks of rehabilitation. Just a few months back, he impressed the CSK fans with his bowling skills, and now he will be missed by them in the upcoming season.

Our Take

Nathan Ellis was a part of the Chennai Super Kings, but he didn't play much for them in the earlier seasons. When India went on a tour of Australia in 2025, Ellis decided to show his worth to the CSK franchise and the Indian fans. He went on to be the highest wicket-taker of the series, and even troubled Abhishek Sharma to a great extent.

Moreover, he was able to take the wicket of Shivam Dube in the series. It came as a big positive for CSK, watching him in such form right before the IPL 2026 season. But he won't be playing for the team this time, as CSK aims to get the best player as a replacement for him.
