The full IPL schedule will now be revealed within the next few days. It has been reported that the BCCI is likely to announce the schedule before the tournament opener. As of now, only the first 20 matches of the tournament have been announced.

Fans have been waiting for the IPL 2026 to begin, but the tournament schedule was not been fully announced. When it was earlier released by the BCCI, it was released for the first 20 games. Starting from 28 March, it will be the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, going against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The schedule of the first 20 games missed out on a number of things, including the most popular IPL rivalry, the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. Now, the IPL schedule for remaining games is also likely to be announced by the BCCI within the next 3-4 days. It has been reported that the BCCI has informed the teams about the same.

Some reports even say that the total number of matches in the IPL will be increased from this season. However, there is no official confirmation for the same from either the IPL or BCCI management. It is likely that the remaining schedule will be released just before the tournament opener.

Our Take

The IPL 2026 will be like no other edition of the tournament. It is set to change a number of things, if the number of games are to be increased. The reported idea says that each team will be having home and away games against all the other teams. The finals of the tournament are also reported to be played at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The main reason behind the schedule delay was the assembly elections in key states like Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and others. Since the dates of the same have now been announced by the ECI, the BCCI is now almost ready to announce the schedule, noting the availability of venues.
