Last year, the IPL fans were shocked to witness a stampede which took the lives of 11 people. While the stadium has been cleared to host matches again, the government decided to do something to honour the fans. Before the IPL opener, the Home Minister unveiled a memorial for the fans who lost their lives in the stampede.

The IPL 2026 has started and fans witnessed the cricket action back at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. This stadium was in the headlines even when the IPL 2025 came to an end, as a deadly stampede took place at this venue. The horrifying incident went on to take the lives of 11 people, and questions were raised on the stadium safety.

Eventually, the RCB took some initiatives to ensure that such incidents are prevented in the future. And the team also went on to host games at this venue, with the opener clash against SRH being the first one. However, it was also necessary for them to honour the fans who lost their lives at this venue due to the tragic stampede.

And for this, the Karnataka Government decided to step in. Before the season opener, the Home Minister of Karnataka, G. Parameshwara, unveiled a memorial for the fans who lost their lives at this venue. Even though the fans are gone, they are still not forgotten.

Our Take

The initiative taken by the Karnataka Government and the RCB management comes vital as the stadium gets reopened to host IPL games. Moreover, the team has worked hard with the stadium authorities to ensure that such incidents won't happen in the near future. Several initiatives have also been taken by the RCB to ensure that the lives lost are still remembered.

The opening clash saw 11 empty seats in the stadium, which was given as an honour to the fans who lost their lives at the stampede. With the stadium being upgraded to a great extent, the RCB management has done well with its initiative RCB Cares to ensure that their 12th man army remains safe.
