Kieron Pollard has been one of the best game-changers in the IPL history. With him in the team, Mumbai Indians were able to do wonders. However, when MI got him in the 2010 auction, three other teams also managed to place the same bid as MI but still lost.
Kieron Pollard, a name which every Mumbai Indians fan remembers. While he has retired from the Indian Premier League, his journey with them to win several titles will never be forgotten. But, did you know how Mumbai Indians managed to get Pollard to their team, when there were three other teams fighting to get him in the auction.
It all started way back in the IPL 2010, when Pollard was put on the table. Being a youngster, he had shown a lot of promise with his performances in this format. Out of the eight teams, six teams started bidding for Pollard and the two teams which didn't bid for him were Delhi Daredevils and Rajasthan Royals.
When the bidding increased, only four teams were left in this battle. And these were the big names, such as Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Chennai Super Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders. The bidding reached a maximum of 750,000 US dollars, which was the highest salary cap for a player that season.
Following this, a silent tiebreaker was introduced by the BCCI. Since no team wanted to back off, they had to write a price for the player and hand it over to the auctioneer. The team which gives the highest price would be able to get the player to their line-up. But this price won't be going to the player, it will be going to the BCCI.
All the four teams submitted their price tags for the silent tiebreaker. And it was Mumbai Indians who turned out to be victorious, getting Kieron Pollard to their line-up. It is still not revealed what was the hidden price paid by Mumbai Indians in the auction to get Pollard, but it definitely turned out to be historic.
