Why Andy Flower Was Penalised After RCB vs MI Match?
Andy Flower has been fined 15% of his match fees in the match against Mumbai Indians. In the 18th over, he had a heated conversation with the fourth umpire of the game. It all started with RCB not getting a six when Naman Dhir attempted to catch at the boundary line.
The match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Mumbai Indians saw the most controversies around umpiring yet again. And this time, the RCB Head Coach, Andy Flower has been fined 15% of his match fees. He was spotted arguing with the fourth umpire during the 18th over of the game, when his team was not given six runs.
It happened when Krunal Pandya was going against Allah Ghazanfar. Pandya smashed the ball towards the boundary, and Naman Dhir was able to take the catch and throw it towards Tilak Varma before he himself went over the boundary. But, it seemed as if his foot had touched the boundary rope and a movement happened in the same.
Due to this reason, even Tilak Varma did not claim the catch when Naman Dhir threw it towards him. But even after having the replays checked, the umpires confirmed that Dhir had no contact with the boundary line. This led to a heated confrontation between Andy Flower and the fourth umpire.

This is not for the first time when the umpiring standards have been put into question in the IPL. It was just another game where the coaches or even the players were unhappy due to the same. While Andy Flower has been fined, his team still ended up being on the winning side, even after not being awarded with a six on that ball. However, the expressions of Tilak Varma at that time suggested that the boundary rope was disturbed by Naman Dhir while taking the catch.
