Punjab Kings suffered with an early blow, as Mitchell Starc was able to remove Priyansh Arya in the first over. But Prabhsimran Singh was able to start a counterattack, as it helped PBKS to score 58/2 in the powerplay. Shreyas Iyer was able to steady the scoring rate along with Cooper Connolly, before Delhi Capitals brought down Kuldeep Yadav.

Kuldeep was able to slow down the scoring rate, as he also removed Connolly and Shashank Singh in quick succession. Marcus Stoinis gave a late cameo to the team, scoring 36 runs off 18 balls, which powered Punjab Kings to score 176 runs for the loss of 8 wickets.

In reply, Delhi Capitals started the chase beautifully as KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka played some elegant strokes. Arshdeep Singh was able to take two quick wickets, as he removed Pathum Nissanka and Nitish Rana to shift the momentum towards Punjab.

The turning point arrived when Tristan Stubbs partnered with KL Rahul at 82/3. They were able to attack Yuzvendra Chahal and Lockie Ferguson smartly, as they stitched a 74-run stand. Rahul anchored the chase, while Stubbs accelerated in the death overs.
