IPL Hands Pollard 15% Match Fee Fine After PBKS Match
Kieron Pollard has been handed over a fine following the game against Punjab Kings. In the 19th over, he allegedly used abusive language against the fourth umpire. Later Pollard admitted his offense and was fined 15% of his match fees and handed a demerit point.
Kieron Pollard is known for having some of the most heated scenes in the IPL. Whether it is having an argument with Virat Kohli, taping his mouth in the game, and even throwing his bat towards Mitchell Starc. But yesterday, fans got to witness Pollard’s aggression once again after a long time.
It happened in the 19th over of Mumbai's chase, when the pressure started to build on both teams. At this time, Kieron Pollard was spotted having an argument with the fourth umpire. He was unhappy with the umpiring decisions and the argument escalated to a great extent. Pollard even used offensive words towards the umpire, which were clearly heard.
The match referee, Pankaj Dharmani was then able to book Pollard for a Level 1 offence under the Article 2.3 for an "audible obscenity". Pollard further accepted his wrongdoing, and he was handed one demerit point with 15% of his match fees being fined. There was no formal hearing required for this result, as Pollard accepted his mistakes.
Our Take
Such moments show that even in pressure situations, it is not only the players who could lose their cool. Even Kieron Pollard, who was a part of the coaching department, lost his cool on the fourth umpire and handed over straight abuse to him. While Mumbai Indians have been knocked out of the tournament, Pollard would be a lot happy looking at their batting performances in the recent games.
