Punjab Kings Eye Entry Into Women’s Premier League
Punjab Kings may soon have their own team in the Women's Premier League. The tournament has received commendable growth over the last few years. And recently, the co-owner of Punjab Kings, Mohit Burman, has expressed his interest in having a women's team.
After the Indian Premier League, a franchise league which has been a lot popular in the country is the Women's Premier League. In just a few seasons, this tournament has been able to break records in viewership that no other tournament around the world has been able to break. Moreover, this tournament has contributed to the growth of women's cricket.
Several young talents are able to show their skills and eventually make it to the Indian team. Right now, there are three IPL teams which are also available in the WPL, and these include Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Delhi Capitals. But soon, we could see another team in this tournament, as an IPL team owner has shown significant interest in the same.
Recently, the co-owner of Punjab Kings, Mohit Burman, has shown an interest in this tournament. He talked about the growth of women's cricket by saying, “Personally, I think the future of the women’s game is extremely bright. We would love to own a women's IPL team.”
Our Take
If Punjab Kings gets its team in the Women's Premier League, it will be an exciting addition to the tournament. Punjab Kings have not been able to win a title in the IPL till now, but the Women's team might help them to break the jinx, as it worked for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Moreover, we would be able to see the women's version of classic IPL rivalries, such as RCB vs PBKS, PBKS vs MI, and MI vs DC.
