Recently, a photo has gone viral of a bill which is claimed to be of the Indian team in 1983. Billed in London, it claims that the Indian team drank a lot to celebrate their 1983 World Cup win. However, Kirti Azad, one of the World Cup winning members, reacted to the same, dismissing the claims.

The Indian team which won the 1983 World Cup entered the headlines once again due to a viral photo. And this is not any photo related to the celebrations they did on the ground after winning the World Cup. There is a page on Instagram, which posts the lost bills, which people might have forgotten.

Recently, the page posted a bill named to the Indian cricket team, a day after they had won the 1983 World Cup. It was the Grosvenor Hotel, and the bill total came out to be £764.40. One of the key items which fans noticed in this bill was the number of drinks which the Indian team had, and it became a center of attention.

However, this bill came into notice as Kirti Azad decided to tell the truth. He tweeted by saying, “This is fake. It is all over social media. We stayed at Westmoreland Hotel, next to Lords Cricket Ground, London. After the victory on 25 June 1983 celebrations took place all night till morning of 26th June. We never went to this hotel. The signature of Kapil Dev is also forged.”

Our Take

Upon taking a closer look at the bill, fans even noticed there are several other flaws. In the bill, the service charge of 10% is calculated wrongly which shows that the bill might have been made in such a way to grab reach and attention from the fans. Even for the page owner, it would have been unexpected that his fake bill could get exposed by a former Indian cricketer.
