Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez was voted the English football’s player of the year by the Professional Footballers' Association on Sunday. The Algerian International has been an integral part of Leicester City’s reign at the top of the PL table scoring 17 goals and making 11 assists in 34 games.

Mahrez was selected as the Player of the Year by the Professional Footballers' Association after he finished ahead of fellow Leicester City players Jamie Vardy and N'Golo Kante, Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, Arsenal's Mesut Ozil, and West Ham United's Dimitri Payet.

Speaking after winning the award, the Algerian thanked his Leicester City teammates and manager Claudio Ranieri for all the success.

“All the credit is for them, seriously,” he said. “And my manager and the staff. Without them, I wouldn’t receive this award and I wouldn’t score. It’s the team spirit. I want to dedicate it to them.

“I’m very grateful to receive this award, it’s a pleasure. It’s extra special because, if the players vote for me, it’s because they’ve seen I’ve been great this year so I’m happy,” Mahrez was quoted as by the guardian.com.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Delle Alli won the PFA Young Player of the Year award, while Manchester City’s Izzy Christiansen was named Women’s Player of the Year. Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs, who won both major awards in the men’s section during his playing career, won the PFA Merit Award.
