Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has confirmed that Los Blancos were interested in signing Paul Pogba in the summer transfer window before he was lured to English shores. Zidane has always refused to be drawn into a conversation about Pogba and never actually admitting interest in him until now.

Pogba, 23, who broke the world record transfer fee following his move to Manchester United earlier in the season, was heavily linked to both clubs. The former Juventus player, however, chose the red of Manchester over the fabled white of Madrid.

Zidane said that they had indeed approached officials from Juventus in regards to the possible transfer of the young Frenchman, while speaking to RMC sport.

"It could have happened," the Madrid boss confirmed.

During the transfer window, Zidane had refused to talk about the possible transfer and was reportedly disgruntled by Pogba's ultimate choice.

"I have no view. He's a United players and that's it," the former French captain had told journalists once the transfer to England was confirmed. "I wish him well - that's it."

It has now been over a month since the deal was signed, and Zidane has finally revealed that the 2016 Champions League winners were indeed keen on bringing the former Le Harve man to the Santiago Bernabeu.

"There were conversations but it(the transfer) didn’t go ahead," concluded the 44-year-old Real Madrid legend.

However, whether missing out on Pogba was a blessing in disguise for the Frenchman would come to light only at the end of this season – even as Pogba's United campaign has stuttered to a start finally.
