Isco scored a crucial away goal for Real Madrid to ensure that the club will take on Juventus in the Champions League final. Despite losing the semifinal second leg 2-1 to Atletico on the night, Isco’s goal helped Real seal a 4-2 aggregate win as they look to defend the CL crown.

Needing to overturn an improbable 3-0 deficit from the first leg, Atletico were off to a flying start when Saul Niguez powered home a header with just 12 minutes gone, following a corner from Koke. The home side were given even more reason to believe in what was the last Madrid derby at the Vicente Calderon when Fernando Torres was bundled over in the box four minutes later and Antoine Griezmann converted the resulting penalty.

Conceding two goals early goals brought Real to life and Isco ended all hopes of an Atletico comeback when he pounced on a rebound from close range following a shot from Toni Kroos, just before half-time. Although both sides had chances to score again in the second half, there were no more goals in the tie.

The result means that Real will take on Juventus in the final in Cardiff on June 3. Madrid are aiming to become the first team to successfully defend the Champions League title since the current format was introduced in 1992.
