I-League | Seven clubs to meet today after broadcast row

Under the body named I-League (Private) Clubs Association, seven teams of the league including the defending champions Minerva Punjab will meet to decide their further course of action against what they call an “injustice” by the All India Football Federation. The national body had recently announced to cut down on the live telecast of I-League games to just 31 for the 61 remaining games in the current edition.  

All the matches of Kolkata’s famous Mohun Bagan will be shown live while Minerva Punjab will be the most affected club as far as the live coverage of its matches is concerned. Making a debut in the first division of the tournament, the first team from Jammu and Kashmir – Real Kashmir FC will also be partially affected with the announcement by AIFF.

Calling the move - #SaveILeagueSaveIndianFootball, the clubs released a statement saying it as a move to “make our voices heard and in an attempt to mobilise the entire football community to fight the injustice being meted out to the Top Division Football League of the country.”

“There is a concerted effort to destroy the I-League. The time has come for all of us to protest unitedly and, if needed, approach the court,” said Minerva owner Ranjit Bajaj. Reported PTI.

The other member clubs are Chennai City FC, NEROCA FC, Aizawl FC, Gokulam Kerala FC, Real Kashmir FC and Shillong Lajong FC. Mohun Bagan and East Bengal from West Bengal and Goa’s Churchill Brothers are yet to join the new body.

“We have reached out to them and await their confirmation,” the statement added.
