Odisha FC manager Josep Gombau has opined that conceding a goal in the very first minute of the match changed the match for his side, from which it was always an uphill task. The Spaniard also hinted that he has many young players in the squad, which makes winning such close games trickier.

Odisha’s second ISL match did have some familiar circumstances from their loss in the first match, which also ended in a 2-1 outcome in the opponent’s favour. The Juggernauts couldn’t have started the match any worse with NorthEast United FC's Redeem Tlang scoring on as early as the second minute from a defensive lapse.

And Gombau has been of the opinion that it changed the match completely. “If you concede in the first minute, it changes the game a lot. I think it’s a lapse of concentration. I need to watch the video and make my opinion,” said Gombau in the post-match press conference, reported the ISL website.

The new team is sitting eighth on the points table after playing a game more than Chennaiyin FC and Hyderabad FC, who could jolly well leapfrog them after respective matches. The season is panning out to be similar to the last one for Gombau, where nothing went his way despite his side, then Delhi Dynamos, showing promising display at times.

“It’s a disappointing result. I think we did quite well in terms of the way of we played our football. We had a lack of concentration in the first minute, I think. This cost us the first goal. After that, the team played quite well. I think we had some chances to draw level before the half-time. Their goalkeeper made good saves. In the second-half, we played good football. We had our chances. We scored and drew the game,” said Gombau.

“After that, an unlucky accident and we got a red card. We conceded the goal in the 85th minute like last game. We lost the game. I think we have very young players in the squad. They need to grow but I am satisfied with them because everybody works very hard,” he added.
