Midfielder Amarjit Singh, who is currently under rehabilitation due to an elbow injury for six-eight weeks, has stated that it is not impossible for India to beat Qatar ahead of their clash on Tuesday. Acknowledging the might of the current Asian Champions, Singh expressed optimism and backed India.

India go up against Qatar on Tuesday for the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers’s second round in Doha, and Amarjit Singh, who will not be able to be a part of the Indian squad in this clash due to injury, sounded confident about his country achieving the unthinkable.

“In football, it’s all about those 90 minutes. Nothing else matters. They have overcome powerhouses like Japan, Australia, Iran and Korea Republic”, expressed Amarjit recalling the historic Asian Cup triumph of Qatar., reported Sportstar.

Recognizing the label of ‘Spain of Asia’ that Qatar has been termed, Amarjit hailed that Qatar are a very good team but history does not matter on the field. “We need to be mentally strong, It isn’t easy, but it isn’t impossible either. It hurts to be out” Amarjit admitted his grief on missing out on the big outing for his country while reiterating “There’s no reason why we can’t. it’s about those 90 minutes.”” he added.

Indian Captain Sunil Chhetri and Coach Igor Stimac have both praised the young midfielder acknowledging that his absence has been a huge blow to the team. The youngster had gelled into the new Indian side of the Croatian coach very well and was a main part of the starting eleven.

“I always believe in young players because they bring great motivation into the team — they bring freshness, they bring fight into the team — that’s what I am proud of. Amarjit absolutely deserved to be here with us. All I can say that is that we are waiting for you. You are part of this team. Get well soon and rejoin us. He is someone with great technical capability, can pass it around, and bring in the fight,” he added.
