Cycle has ended and we are working on a renewal process, proclaims Joan Laporta

Although Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman is currently at the helm, and has one year to run on his contract at Camp Nou, ESPN reported, earlier this week, there are growing doubts among the board regarding his future and capability at the club. That especially comes after the club's latest showing over the last few months with doubts growing regarding the Dutchman’s capability to handle pressure and whether Barcelona is headed in the right direction under his tutelage.

ESPN has reported that Joan Laporta is not convinced with Koeman’s performances and tactics considering the resources available at his disposal. Laporta, who was elected for a second spell as president in March, has been highly critical of the way things have gone and revealed that things are about to change. The Barcelona president further added that a cycle has come to an end for the La Liga giants and it will see them start a change for the club.

"I always said we'd assess the team at the end of the season in terms of performances and results. We won the Copa del Rey, which we are proud of, but we were knocked out of the Champions League early and have lost La Liga incomprehensibly from my point of view. A cycle has come to an end and we are working on a renewal process," Laporta said, reported ESPN.

"From next week, you will see several decisions which must be taken. We have to work hard to build a competitive team to win league titles and Champions Leagues. When I speak of a cycle coming to an end or about renovation work, it's because it's what I believe must be done."
