Marco Reus confirms that he won’t be going to postponed Euro 2020 with Germany

While there were set to be many shocks and surprises named for Germany’s 26 man squad for the postponed Euro 2020, many expected Marco Reus to be a key part of the squad. However, after what has been an intense season for the midfielder, the 31-year-old confirmed that he won’t be a part of the Die Mannschaft’s squad at the summer tournament. This comes after the midfielder played nearly 50 games for the club this season with the season condensed and compressed in order to finish everything on time.

The 31-year-old’s statement, across social media, confirmed the news and revealed that it has been a complicated and exhausting season for many which has forced him to make the decision. Reus also added that he will be using the off-season as a chance to recover and give his body time to adjust which means he won’t be adding to his 44 caps for Germany this summer but did admit that he will be cheering for the German side from home.

“After a complicated, exhausting and, in the end, ‘thank God’ successful season, I decided, together with (Low), not to go to the European Championships. This decision was very difficult for me because I am always full of pride when I am allowed to appear for my country,” Reus wrote on his social media.

“But after a very intense year for me personally and achieving my goals at BVB, I made the decision to give my body time to recover! I will make good use of the break in order to be able to start the new season optimally! I wish Jogi and our team all the best for the (Euros) and I will cheer as a fan and keep my fingers crossed.”
