Ral6f Rangnick has admitted that Cristiano Ronaldo was not involved in yesterday’s FA Cup fixture against Aston Villa as he had an issue with his hip muscle but reiterated that it's not anything serious. United were able to secure a 1-0 victory despite the Portuguese international’s absence.

Cristiano Ronaldo joined Manchester United from Juventus this past summer for his second spell at the club after leaving the English giants to join Real Madrid in 2009. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has made a fine start to life at the Manchester club but has been unable to prevent them from arresting their terrible form at the moment. The 36-year-old has scored 14 goals and registered three assists in 22 appearances across all competitions.

Manchester United hosted Aston Villa in their third-round FA Cup tie at Old Trafford on Tuesday and were able to secure a 1-0 victory courtesy of a Scott McTominay goal in the first half that sees them progress into the fourth round and face Middlesbrough. Ronaldo missed the fixture against the Villans as he suffered a hip injury but interim manager Rangnick has confirmed that the injury is not serious and outlined that it was only a minor injury.

"I spoke with Cristiano yesterday before training, he told me that he's had some problems for the last couple of days. Minor problems, but in the end, we decided that it made more sense to not take any risks in a game that could easily last 120 minutes, so we just decided to rest him. He had some problems with his hip, with his hip muscle. I don't think it's anything serious," Rangnick told ESPN.
