Former Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has asserted that things haven’t gone the way that Robert Lewandowski and his agent wanted to although he indicated that the German club might keep the striker for another year. Lewandowski has expressed his desire to join Barcelona this summer.

Robert Lewandowski has cemented his status as one of the finest strikers of his generation during his tenure at Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich in Germany. The Bayern striker has been instrumental in securing a plethora of trophies for the German club including eight Bundesliga titles and a solitary Champions League title. But the Polish striker reiterated his intentions of moving onto greener pastures this summer as he looks to bring his storied legacy at Bayern to an end.

Lewandowski risked the wrath of supporters and the German club’s hierarchy alike when he publicly requested the club to let him leave and join Barcelona this summer. His current deal expires next summer but the German giants are considering keeping their star man before letting let him depart on a free transfer. So much so, that former Munich president Uli Hoeness revealed that the Polish international’s entourage is unhappy with the club’s persistence and admitted that the club might opt to keep the striker until the end of his deal.

"At the moment, things haven't gone quite the way he and especially his special agent wanted them to, and they're angry. I would recommend all parties involved to remain objective, not to let the matter escalate, and then the sun will soon shine again over the Lewandowski/Bayern Munich house,” Hoeness told SPORT1.

"I've always said that if you don't have an alternative who you think can replace him to some extent - and it looks like that's difficult at the moment - then I would definitely advocate, like everyone else at the club, that he stays for another year.  I see a good chance that we have a great team next year - with Robert Lewandowski."
