After the arrival of Todd Boehly as co-owner and chairman in 2022, Chelsea have turned Brighton into one of their main sources of talent, with the latest move being a deal for Paraguayan midfielder Julio Enciso. The 21-year-old, who joined Brighton from Libertad in 2022 and recorded five goals and six assists in 57 matches, is set to leave the Amex after three years.
The transfer fee is reported to be around £16 million, with Enciso expected to initially join Strasbourg, Chelsea’s sister club under the BlueCo multi-club network, before being integrated into the Stamford Bridge squad in the future. Enciso was not part of Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler’s plans this season and had spent the second half of the previous campaign on loan at Ipswich Town.
His switch adds to the long list of players and staff Chelsea have acquired from Brighton, which now totals 15 since 2022, taking the spending beyond £257 million. Notable signings include Marc Cucurella (£62m), Moises Caicedo (£115m), Robert Sanchez (£25m), and Joao Pedro (£55m). Chelsea also brought in Graham Potter, his coaching team, and sporting executives such as Paul Winstanley and Sam Jewell. Enciso’s signing reinforces Chelsea’s ongoing reliance on Brighton as a recruitment hub.
