Barcelona moved to the top of La Liga with a composed 2-0 away win over Villarreal. Raphinha scored from the penalty spot early on, before Lamine Yamal added the second after the hosts were reduced to 10 men, sealing a confident display.
When the match kicked off at the Estadio de la Cerámica, Barcelona showed composure and control to secure a 2-0 La Liga victory over Villarreal, a result that sent them into the new year at the top of the table. Barcelona struck early and set the tone within the opening quarter of an hour. In the 12th minute, Raphinha was blocked inside the penalty area while attempting to break through, and the winger calmly converted the resulting spot kick to give the visitors a deserved lead.
The turning point of the game arrived just before half time. Villarreal defender Renato Veiga mistimed a sliding challenge on Lamine Yamal, catching the teenager on the foot and receiving a straight red card. Although Yamal was left in discomfort, he recovered after treatment and continued.
With a numerical advantage, Barcelona dictated possession in the second half and limited Villarreal’s attacking threat. Their control was rewarded in the 63rd minute when Yamal reacted quickest to a loose ball after a scramble in the box, finishing neatly to double the lead. Villarreal continued to compete despite being a man down, but sharp saves from goalkeeper Joan García preserved the clean sheet as Barcelona closed out a professional and disciplined win.
