Real Madrid’s plan to sign PSG midfielder Vitinha for €90m is unlikely to succeed. Despite his Ballon d’Or third-place finish and Champions League triumph in 2025, PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi is determined to block any move to Madrid due to lingering anger over Kylian Mbappe’s free transfer in 2024.
Doing the rounds in European football circles, Real Madrid's interest in PSG midfielder Vitinha has reportedly hit a major roadblock, with Kylian Mbappe playing an indirect but decisive role in the situation. The 25-year-old Portugal international has enjoyed a remarkable rise since joining PSG in 2022, finishing 3rd in the Ballon d’Or this year after playing a key role in the club’s historic Champions League triumph. Vitinha has emerged as a priority midfield target for Real Madrid, especially as the club plans to reshuffle its squad in the coming seasons.
Reports suggest Madrid are prepared to activate the €90 million release clause in Vitinha’s contract, with funds potentially generated through the sale of Vinicius Junior. However, PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi is said to be unwilling to negotiate with Madrid due to lingering frustration over Mbappe’s free transfer to Spain in 2024. According to Spanish reports, PSG are determined to block any move that would see Vitinha follow the same path.
The situation is further complicated by the player’s own stance, as Vitinha is reportedly settled in Paris and has no intention of pushing for an exit. With this deal unlikely to progress, Real Madrid are now expected to explore alternatives. Names such as Enzo Fernandez, Adam Wharton, Kobbie Mainoo, Angelo Stiller, and young AZ Alkmaar talent Kees Smit are all being monitored as the club reassesses its midfield plans.
