Tottenham triggered Morgan Gibbs-White’s £60 million release clause, but Nottingham Forest claim an illegal approach was made. The issue has now entered legal proceedings, with Forest yet to officially complain to the Premier League. Despite returning to training, Gibbs-White’s future remains uncertain, as Forest aim to retain him amid stalled contract talks.

The transfer of Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest to Tottenham Hotspur has become increasingly complex and is now a legal matter between the two clubs. Spurs recently made an official approach to trigger the £60 million release clause in the 25-year-old midfielder’s contract. However, Forest has accused Tottenham of breaching confidentiality by submitting a bid that matched the exact clause terms, suggesting an illegal approach. Despite this, Forest have not yet lodged a formal complaint with the Premier League, though the league may step in if the matter escalates.

Gibbs-White, who has long been on Tottenham’s radar and admired by head coach Thomas Frank, was expected to undergo a medical last Friday but stayed with Forest after strong objections from the club and owner Evangelos Marinakis. He has since returned to Forest’s training and took part in preseason activities.

Forest has been trying to offer Gibbs-White a new contract for months, aiming to remove or alter the release clause. The player, with two years left on his current deal, has shown little interest in extending his stay. Although a move to Tottenham is still expected by many, legal uncertainties and the lack of communication between the clubs suggest the saga is far from over.
